Dalat International School provides education for life to children in preschool to grade 12. The school offers an American, college-preparatory, Christian-integrated education. Dalatís excellent academic and world class boarding programs are fully accredited and considered a leader in international education.
 
 
 
Accreditation
 
The Dalat International School academic and boarding programs are fully accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) and the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI).
 
 
Residence Life
 
Dalat provides family-style dorms with caring dorm parents and sibling groups. Students live in five dorms made up of young men and women of all ages, like a real family, and have two or three students in a room; most with en-suite bathrooms. Dorm families eat, play, study and pray together.
 
 
Teaching Staff
 
All of Dalatís core teaching staff have been educated in North America and a majority of them hold advanced degrees in their fields of study. Dalatís student/teacher ratio is 7 to 1.
 
 
Outstanding Services
 
Dalat offers Advanced Placement (AP) level courses for college credit as well as the Advanced Merit Diploma (AMD) for a more rigorous course of study in high school. Dalat also provides English as a Second Language (ESL) instruction; Special Services for learning disabilities; online learning tools via Virtual High School and Seven Star Academy; the Distance Learning Resource Center; and PowerSchool, an online communication tool for parents and teachers.
 
 
 
Just for Parents
 
Dalat cares about parentís education as well and offers English as a Second Language (ESL) classes for parents to improve their language skills as their kids learn. The Guidance Office runs parent seminars throughout the year to help our families through transition and child raising issues. Dalatís Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) is a great place for parents to connect and volunteer their time to help Dalat school.
 
Dalat students in Grades 1 through 9 have scored in the top 10% of all US schools in the ITBS standardized tests.
 
Dalat high school students consistently score 10% to 15% above the US national average on the SAT.
 
 
Rigorous Curriculum
 
United States standards of education have been compiled by McREL Compendium of Standards and Benchmarks for K-12 Education. Dalat also uses Expected School-wide Learning Results and employ teaching methods that focus on cooperative learning and activity-based content learning.
 
 
Advanced Studies
 
Over forty Dalat high school students are taking Advanced Placement (AP) courses for college credit. Dalatís Advanced Merit Diploma (which includes AP classes, community service and a senior project) had three AMD graduates in 2007, and has five in 2008.
 
 
Prepared for College
 
95% of Dalat graduates plan to attend a four-year college.
 
 
University Recognition
 
Recent Dalat graduates have been accepted to Harvard, John Hopkins, Cornell, British Columbia and Singapore University.
 
 
Athletic Excellence
 
Dalat holds the boys Penang State basketball championship for 2002 and 2004, the 2007 boys Penang Island soccer championship and numerous track and field champions.
 
 
The Arts
 
Dalat International School is committed to excellence in vocal and instrumental music as well as the visual arts. All students in Grades 6 through 8 are required to play an instrument in either beginning or intermediate bands. High school offers concert band, jazz band, and concert choir in addition to school courses in music history, theory and composition. Blossoming young artists are born in the visual arts department where students develop drawing, painting, sculpture and creativity skills.
 
 
 
Technology
 
A key to preparing our students for their future in this ever changing world is to make sure they have access to and use of cutting-edge technology. Dalat has three computer labs, computers in every classroom, online courses and computer arts classes for students; there are over 280 computers on campus. Parents also get to take advantage of Dalat technology with PowerSchool, an online medium that allows parents to check on their students grades in real time and communicate easily with teachers through the internet.
 
 
Christian integrated instruction
 
Dalat is founded on the unchanging values of the Bible. Students learn the importance or service, integrity, good character and sportsmanship.
 
 
 
Preschool (ages 3 & 4) and Elementary School (Grades K to 4)
 
Preschool
 
Education for three and four year olds is an introduction to numbers, colors and letters in the English language, learning to play with others, and understanding the world through direct interaction with their environment.
 
 
Elementary School
 
emphasizes the core subjects of: language arts (reading, handwriting, English and spelling), mathematics, social studies, science and Bible. Students also participate in weekly classes in music, art, computer, library and physical education. After-school club programs are offered every day until 3:45pm; the selection of clubs includes boy and girl scouts, foreign languages, games, and sports. Field trips are taken throughout the year to highlight school subjects and Malaysian culture.
 
 
Results
 
In recent ITBS standardized tests, Dalat elementary school scored a strong 77th percentile against the National Student Norm of all US schools in the core subjects of reading, language and math.
 
 
Foundational Fun
 
Elementary School students have many opportunities to participate in team and individual sports competitions in Penang through the Dalat Athletic Department. There are also many opportunities to be involved in community service. A Christmas and spring musical are performed to the delight of many by elementary school students each year.
 
 
 
Middle School (Grades 5 - 8)
 
Energetic, Inquisitive and Tender-hearted Young People
 
make up a dynamic Dalat Middle School where a basic core of language arts, mathematics, social studies, science and Bible are taught daily. Middle schoolers also discover their world through courses in computer, art, study skills, health and band (grades 6-8) each year.
 
 
Results
 
In recent ITBS standardized tests Dalat Middle School scored at the 80th percentile against the National Student Norm of all US schools in the core subjects of reading, language and math.
 
 
Student Advisory Teams (SATs)
 
All middle school students meet in small groups for fifteen minutes at the beginning of each day to participate in coaching and a variety of team-building activities. SATs prepare students for the transition from childhood to young person by teaching responsibility, organization and how to handle life issues.
 
 
Exploratory Classes
 
Middle school schedule is designed to include quarterly classes that teach leadership, foreign languages, drama, journalism, choir, and games.
 
 
School Trips
 
An important part of Dalat Middle School is the annual Middle School Retreat to start off the school year with fun, new friends and goal setting. Grade 8 also has a class trip before they set off for high school.
 
 
Big Hearts
 
Middle school students seem to always be the first to get involved with community service projects and inspiring others to follow. Throughout the year these students hold bake sales, raise money and donate supplies for the benefit of others.
 
 
 
High School (Grades 9 - 12)
 
An American-style, college-preparatory curriculum
 

offers high school students the foundation necessary for their journey in life. A healthy selection of academic courses is offered in language arts, sciences, mathematics, social studies, Bible, and the performing and visual arts. The curriculum produces students that are well-rounded and equipped to make a positive impact in their world. Dalat graduates have been accepted to prestigious colleges and universities all over the world.

 
 
AP (Advanced Placement) courses
 
These courses offer qualified, motivated students the opportunity to do college-level work in high school and earn college credit. AP is an internationally recognized program.
 
 
Advanced Merit Diploma
 
Students who wish to take a more rigorous course of study can enter the AMD program which involves multiple AP courses, community service and a senior project.
 
 
Special Events
 
Dalat is a school with a long history that has blessed us with many treasured traditions; among these include the Junior Senior Banquet, Christmas banquet, senior sneak trip, service work days, dramas, concerts, exhibitions and graduation. All of these are involved in Dalat’s deliberate “hidden curriculum” that teaches service, organization and perseverance.

Dalat High School students are challenged to be leaders by organizing and participating in efforts that benefit other students, community service in Penang, and compassion projects in the SE Asia Region. Dalat servant leaders continue in these areas of service long after they leave Dalat International School making a positive difference in government, law, international relief and Christian mission work throughout the world.

A long history and a bright future… Dalat School was established in 1929 in Dalat, Vietnam as a school for three missionary kids with the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church. Today Dalat International School is an independent international school serving missionary, expat and local students in Penang, Malaysia with a student body of four hundred from twenty four nations around the world.
